Starting seeds indoors in Toronto
Timing, light, and hardening off for a short spring window.
When to start
Tomatoes and peppers: 6–8 weeks before last frost (late May in Toronto). Hardy greens: 4 weeks. Check your balcony or plot microclimate — lake effect can delay frost.
Light and airflow
Use a full-spectrum grow light 12–14 hours daily. Run a small fan on low for sturdy stems. Thin seedlings so leaves are not touching.
